Driveway installation in Wallington done from the ground up. We dig out, lay a compacted sub-base, set the edgings and finish in block paving, resin or tarmac, with the falls set so rainwater drains away from the house.
We lift the old surface and dig out the soft ground under it, usually to around 200mm for a car. A stone sub-base goes in next and gets compacted in layers. Then the edgings are set and the surface is laid on top. The depth changes if vans or heavier vehicles will park on it.
More Information
Block paving suits most homes and single blocks can be lifted and relaid later. Resin gives a smooth surface with nothing loose underfoot. Tarmac is quick to lay and works well on longer drives. We go through all three at the quote and tell you what fits the space and the budget.
Rainwater has to drain into your own garden or a soakaway rather than onto the pavement. We set the falls so water runs to the right place and does not sit against the house wall. If you are creating off street parking for the first time, the dropped kerb is arranged through the council.
Driveway installation is the biggest part of what we do and has been for over 40 years. We work from Wallington across south London. The method has not changed much in that time: dig deep enough, compact the base in layers and edge it properly. The surfaces on top have improved, so there is more choice now than there used to be.

Most driveways take three to five days. Digging out and laying the sub-base takes the first day or two, then the surface goes down. Resin needs dry weather to cure, so that can shift the finish date. We give you a start and finish date before any work begins.
Sometimes, but not often. If the existing base is sound and the levels still work, tarmac can go over the top. In most cases the old surface has moved or sits too high against the brickwork, so digging it out gives a better finish and a drive that lasts a lot longer.
Not once we start digging out. You will need to park on the road for the few days the job takes. Block paving and tarmac can usually take a car the day after they are finished. Resin needs longer to cure, and we will tell you exactly when it is ready.
