Garden landscaping in Wallington planned as one job. Levels, paths, walls, lawn and planting beds worked out together so the finished garden fits the space and drains the way it should.
Before anything is designed we look at where the ground falls and where water collects after rain. A garden that sits wet needs that sorted first, either by changing the fall or adding drainage. Everything else, from the lawn to the patio, depends on getting this part right.
More Information
Hard landscaping is the built work: paths, patios, steps, walls and decking. Soft landscaping is the growing side, so turf, beds, topsoil and planting. The hard work goes in first because it sets the shape of the garden and involves machinery and materials being moved through.
A full garden is easier to manage in stages: clearance, then groundwork and levels, then hard landscaping, then lawn and planting last. You can spread the stages out if you would rather not do it all at once. We price each part separately so you can see where the money goes.
STILL NOT SURE?
It comes down to how much of the garden is changing and how much built work is involved. Walls, steps and paving cost more per square metre than turf and planting. Access matters too, since everything has to come through the house or a side gate. We price the work in stages.
A straightforward garden with a patio and new lawn takes about a week to ten days. Adding retaining walls, steps or decking pushes it to two or three weeks. Mortar and turf both need settled weather, so winter projects can run longer than the same job in spring.
Yes, and small gardens often gain the most from being planned properly. With limited space, the shape of the patio, the width of a path and where the steps sit make a real difference to how usable the garden feels. We work on courtyards and front gardens as well as large plots.
Garden landscaping came out of customers asking us to sort the rest of the garden while we were laying their patio. Over 40 years on, it is a large part of what we do across Wallington and south London. Doing the whole garden as one job avoids the gaps and repeat visits that come with booking separate trades.
